I was looking around for something to do yesterday when I found
a couple of populated servers on ASE running the d-day mod.
I recognized Rab'd from some posts he made over here a little while back so I joined up and downloaded the map...
while this was running,
I went over to deacons tomb and downloaded the appropriate mod files and such and tried it out.

This mod is awesome!
The damage system is kinda like action quake where you are slowed by being hurt and you can be killed with one well placed bullet.. You wont believe how good the gibs look!
You've got character classes to choose from that decide your initial equipment but you can pick up the other guns off of the dead...
I think there were about 8-9 different choices:
Snipers
commander types
Machine gunners
medics and such
even a flamethrower trooper..
I was very impressed by the aiming system as well..
good old iron sights. You can raise the guns up to look down the sights or you can switch back and shoot some from the hip with a simple click on the right mouse button..
you can crouch down low with the push of a button and you dont have to hold it..
which is really useful if you are using a heavy machine gun that you have to crouch with or rest on something to shoot with any accuracy..
I really enjoyed the sniper rifle and scope setup. It's very realistic, up to having to snap the bolt back and load up another round before firing again...
In addition to really cool guns, you can fist fight and knife each other and do all sorts of cool things. I really enjoyed the knife. nothing better than running by and gutting someone while they're trying to shoot ya. You can even flip the knife around and throw it at someone for a close range kill..
I miss my CS...
The grenades were tough to get the hang of because the throwing animation is totally new to me, but once I got it down, it was quite cool lookin...
I would definitely recommend that everyone who reads this go out and download the mod and try it out...
I give it a solid 'A+', for incredible realism, great models, and pushing the already limited Q2 engine farther than most mods I've ever seen...
