I am strictly against it. We will ruin it when we do too often. Once in a year is enough. Or else we will end up ridiculed all over the "scene", as "The Place of the thousand Contests"

Well, honestly I think its a bit too soon after the 7th. Maybe in a month or two would be better. -W1

Well, how's'about a theme driven, un-judged map "project" then...
Eh?
LeRay's map for the last contest has been on my mind (specifically the moving elements). The idea of an entire map effort combined or otherwise that focuses on movement would be interesting. Ooooor, something along the lines of PeeWee's map but focused on linear progression.
Let me 'splain...
- No need for it to be dm or sp (think sp without monsters).
- Every room/area/zone/whatever needs to have things that move or animate.
- Maybe even maps that are timing, puzzle or platforming based.
- All focused on moving stuff...
Eh? Eh? EH!!!

maric's suggestion sounds fun.
I also think that a speed mapping competition is appropriate in place of the next official contest.
I've seen interest in speed mapping from fellow Spleeners. Speed mapping being no more than a week to create it.

A week for speedmapping? I made spirit2dm4 in 5 days (coming up with the layout included).
We used to have 1h sessions at LM. I'd suggest sth in beween, maybe one afternoon (3-5h)? Make it a sunday and I'm in.

I liked the speedmapping event which we held here in the Cafe in 2007, unfortunately it fell asleep all too soon because of lacking participation. reviving the Cafes' "Monthly Speedmapping Extravaganza" could be a cool thing, provided there are ppl. who join.

You need quite a few active mappers for that because only a fraction will be able to join each event. Let's think about monthly events when the first one is over.

Make it a sunday and I'm in. You're right. I could do a speed map in 1-3 hours. I just expected some kind of negative response from some people who take long periods of time. Many great maps are made in a month, so a week seemed reasonable at the time. But anyway, yeah I'd love to do an actual speed map competition where you have 24 hours from the time that it is announced to submit a map.

I feel the same way regarding the response from a speedmap. I'm a perfectionist and just cant bare to release anything I think isn't my best work. Maybe I'm just a little paranoid of what others might think.
In saying that, koldduel1 & my soon to be released map only took a week to build, and I wasn't as worried whether it looked perfect or not.
I just wish I had a mindset like Jester or Maric, and be able to release quality maps in small amounts of time.
