Just playing around with a theme so far. I haven't figured out the exact layout, yet. I'm aiming for an epic castle on the cliff type design with a village inside. Hopefully the r_speeds don't explode, and hopefully I have time to finish it.

I hope so too because so far it looks awesome! I like the village look and if you're going to do a castle and a cliff that will be the cherry on top:

Working away... Added more to the village and started roughing out some of the basic layout. This will probably be roughly 1/4 of the map. I had forgotten how time consuming and engrossing this is.

Curious how you're gonna tie in the edges

Damn jits, if dp2 was created today the maps would be 1000x times nicer. This map looks awesome so far!

I need to work on the lighting a bit, as it's all open sky here, and everything is pretty much uniformly lit. I really want to modify the compiler to take into account the color of the sky at the specific angle of the light so lighting color/intensity changes as it would in a real environment. Not sure if I'll have time for that.

The houses look great! How large are they, can players enter them? Maybe you could place some items for the next screenshots, so we can get an impression on the scale.

The square/X tudor textures are 64x64, for a sense of scale. The small house on the cliff side is the only one that can be entered currently. I'm not sure if I'll open up any others.

Will this be a baseq2 map or a DigitalPaint map? Or both?

No doubt it'll serve a dual purpose which is a great idea considering both PB2 and Q2 will benefit. Ace is another great mapper who joins us from the world of Paintball 2. It's always nice to see such talented people trying new things and competing in our contest

jdolan: The plan is to have a version for both games. Hopefully I'll have time. Starting a new job this week, which I think is going to be pretty demanding.
Null: Cool.
Small update: Working on compiler tools to try to get better lighting. Nothing new on the map to show yet.
