What was your FOV for those shots? 120? I love the fish-eye lens look

Jester and I have both used this by creating invisible brushes to rest the entity on top of. I even had one that "floated" a Quad Damage powerup and it bobbed up and down so you would have to time your jump at the right moment to pick it up (Solar Winds). Of course, the down side to this was we had to test the map over and over for the strength and height of the jump because depending on what part of the jump pad the player made contact with, it could put the player too high (unable to get the powerup) or too low (actually hit the invisible brush and fall into the void). It just took some testing on our part to get it just right.
Laura, if you have a decompile program, you're more than welcome to decomp my map and see the settings for that invisible brush. Hope this helps!

Experimentation is the only way you will ever break out from the pack. Nothing wrong with a weird map or two every once in a while. It usually sparks the imagination!

Hmm...flew away like a Cacodemon you say? > Fortunately, they run for about $15 in classic game stores and aren't too hard to find. I'd love to see it in the Q2 engine...or even remade for Doom 3.

I still have N64 games and loved playing Quake 2...even though it was only Quake 2 in name and not much else (completely different game and story line).
Have you considered rebuilding any Doom 64 levels? It's only single player, but I had started building a SP level from that game years ago and never got around to finishing it. Doom 64 is still one of my favorite shooters of all time.

BSP is binary space partitioning. This is the calculated space in the game represented in binary form so that the engine can easily and quickly draw what will be visible to the player.
RAD is short for Radiosity. This is the global illumination algorithm. The calculations are viewpoint independant which is why this portion of the compiling process takes so long because it has to calculate the lighting information for every possible angle that the player could view the lightmap from.
VIS is obviously short for Visibility. This is the instruction set that tells the game to draw parts of the level that the player is likely to see from his/her viewpoint. The game won't draw the entire level, only the parts you can see and as you move to other areas, the game draws/renders those areas while the areas you leave and can't be seen by the player are eliminated.
To answer the question about your RAD compile times, how many lights did you use, did you used any texture lighting and what about ambient or world lighting? I've had maps that compiled the BSP and VIS within a couple of minutes whereas the lighting for that same map took an entire day. I think I actually had one that ran for 4 days!

LOL...I love the attitude and Shizznit's courage to do something like this. It's fresh which is always fun and interesting for a game that is over a decade old. Way to go!

That looks like a Quake 2 version of the Unreal Tournament map called DM-Galleon. Maybe they used the same name or something similar.

I found this and thought it was pretty interesting. As usual, YouTube led me on a nice little rat trail of other videos similar to this one and I spent over an hour looking at about 20 different vids. Anyway, here is the link to the one about the Doom 3 pentagram. Enjoy! www.youtube.com/watch?v=wg1tSafzEt0

Seriously, it's no more difficult to map for than mapping for Q3A was. If you are choosing to make your own shaders though...that becomes difficult with the way everything is labeled as materials and there are about 4 different types of light maps for each texture. If you stick with pre-made or stock textures, you should find the transition to be an easy one.

See? I knew someone here could still appreciate this game. No one here has said the original Doom and Doom 2 are bad. I just like the new version with the shaders that show off the lighting effects of the game. Yeah the game is dark, but it's supposed to be dark. It just wouldn't have the "jump out of your pants" moments with all of the lights on.
So, does anyone here play Doom 3 on the Xbox? I have the Xbox version of the game and I also have Live. For those who don't already know this, you can play coop in Doom 3 over Xbox Live. It's great fun and you can even talk using the Xbox Live communicator headset. There is nothing funnier than hearing your buddy screaming like a girl in a dark corridor when a zombie jumps out of a monster closet...lol

She was amazing. I saw the highlight reel on television and the whole thing has become the new "poster child" for the term, "don't judge a book by it's cover".
I hope to hear her singing more in the future!
Oh yeah, and if the singing thing falls through, she can always be a stand up comic...she was pretty funny too!
