Thanks Marics! It's encouraging and uplifting to hear that from someone of your caliber! Over the years we've greatly admired your maps, and our players agree that they are hands down the best, and most solid series of Quake 2 maps ever created! And we don't mean to discourage any of the other mappers from thinking they're just as capable, but instead encourage them to learn as much as they can, for as long as they can from this mapping genius! Frankly we don't know how you did it! It's incredible how you find the patience and determination to keep turning out such solid maps! Every one proves to be a hit, and you do it year after year, map after map, by now having your maps number in the hundred! This is quite an accomplishment and on behalf of our players and all of the weapons community, we'd like to congratulate you! Please don't stop! I'd also like to announce that we've not given up on this great game, and continue to see great potential for its future growth. And so we're actively developing tools which hopefully can reinvent some of the development at least in terms of turn around speeds and efficiency... since we're not as map making patient as you guys. Having said that, we're ready to work closely with this great community and take input in their evolvement. Marics you've been an inspiration to us all, so please continue to make these great maps of yours! It would be nice to see them enjoyed by players, and inspire the rest of us to do the same for many years to come! Also it wouldn't hurt to have more splendid maps to remix! Cheers, Null XOXOXOXO I don't see many more maps coming from me in the near future. I have the wanting to make them, just no time or energy. I gots me a genuine book in the works. Every spare moment I have is going into the edits, re-writes and whittling away process. I have until the end of June before my publisher gets it. Then we'll see just how poorly it's received.

That really blows man. I've been lookin at the box each time I visit the game shop and thought about one day buying it. I'm the same, it does feel bad to trash id for what they've done before - need I list the classics they've spawned? But yeah, alot of the things they're doing these days is purely to show the power of their engine off, never mind immersion... ...Tell you what though if they f**k up Doom 4 I'll be majorly pissed off about it. I love Doom and Quake 1 2 3 and 4, but Doom 3 felt like a tech demo, and now Rage is too from the sounds of it, and a very buggy one at that... Maybe Carmack is getting bored...Maybe he feels like there's not much more to accomplish in graphical programming??? I don't know. But he is a genius, I'd hate for the passion he has to dissipate. Oh well...Guess I'll keep playing the id classics - at least the replay value is still there for them. Yeah I agree with you on all points about their games aside from Quake 3. My experience with it was that it was nothing more than a tech-demo. There are amazing user made maps for it though...simply amazing stuff. And for Rage, I feel like manic-depressive about it. What's great is truly great but what isn't is just plain horrible. I just wish I had time to play any game right now, even a bad one. Life is absolutely crazy for us but mostly good-crazy at least. There's just one dark cloud in the sky I'm hoping blows over. My old friend "the killer tumor" is maybe-possibly back for another round of fun...oh joy! I'll know more details in a week or so. I don't wanna have my head chopped open again...that darn stuff hurts like a mutha'! Next Q2 map contest; make a level of my head that's clear of slime, traps, lava and broke-assed-pitfalls.

SUre- contact me! I'd really like that if you still have them. I'd be very grateful! I'll do my best to dig that up or re-gather what I can. I'm still in absolutely-crazy-real-life mode for a couple more weeks BUT, it shouldn't take much effort.

Yo!
And yeah, I can't imagine ever finding a game and its' resultant community that has the same "zing" as Q2.

I have it for the Xbox. I enjoy most of it; some of the sudden and cheap deaths get on my nerves and I've never been a fan of endless boss battles but, great game.

Ah yes Borderlands... So addicting... Yeah man! While I hate to "wish-away" time, September 21 can't come soon enough... www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTTJH8Ix4FkI just placed a pre-order.

One last comment/s; Borderlands does everything Rage seems to want to do without the slightest hiccup. I luvz me some Borderlands and have played it all the way through five times, including the three major single player focused add on dealios.

Wow, that's a shame. Is it worth buying from the steam holiday discounts? [I've been thinking about doing this] That depends on how far along the PC version has come. It seems like it has its share of problems too. I had to quit playing my Xbox version. I'm sick of the hard freezes this dang game causes. As for game-play, when Rage is hitting on all cylinders it is great fun, otherwise it's pretty horrible. The driving aspect (easily 50% of the game) is pure garbage in my opinion. The fps elements are fun; the locations and enemies are interesting but lacking in real variety and the weapons feel decent. I recently finished Gears 3 and Vanquish. Both far exceed Rage in almost every aspect. It's my opinion only but I think Vanquish is a much better looking game aside from Rage's rocky bits, Gears not so much. I'd say that Rage would be a great bargain bin purchase. It certainly isn't up to Doom 3 or Quake 4 standards, so a cheap price would sweeten the deal. It seems so wrong to trash an id product so badly but everyone swings and misses now and then.

So, I'm trying to replay this one.
There's so much wrong with this game I won't even bother listing it all again. I've not had one session of play where there hasn't been a "hard-lockup". The update which was supposed to fix a lot of the problems has made the game all but unplayable.
Id owes me $60.

Forgot this thread So..did you find anything m? -W1 Yeah, forgot about this one too. But no, I don't have anything. I even dug out my old (very first) gaming rig just in case it was there. That faithful machine is 15+ years old and still running.

I have to say this whole thing is surrealistic but in a completely good way.

Very nice to hear Maric. I am glad it all worked out for you. Need me to pass the tissues? Thanks! No tissues, I wipe, blow and dab exclusively with 60-grit sandpaper.

So, I've been more or less absent from these here parts for the past few weeks. There's a good reason and I'll tall ya' why. I'm in my mid forties now, I've known for something like ten years (less than a 1/4 for the slow at arithmetic) that I have a half brother "out there somewhere". Odd family circumstances (most of which don't need to be shared) opened up interesting avenues of conversation which led to one fragile and remote piece of information springing out of the recesses of my sister's brilliant mind. It was a first name, just a first name and only a possibility, a paper thin possibility. My incredible, persistent and determined wife added that name to a search string (we had some other basic but hitherto insufficient information), she wrote and mailed a detailed but cautious letter...and long story short. I chatted with my big brother (a little older too) on the phone for the first time in my life a few weeks ago. Also for the first time in my life, I was able to spend the day with brother. He's a great guy and has a lovely wife, the four of us had a great time. We pigged-out on fancy burgers at a nice country restaurant and then homemade cookies by a cozy fire at our crib. Sometimes life throws (I attribute all of this to God, but don't want to get all preachy at ya'll) the most wonderful surprises at you. So, I've been focused on that sort of thing. I just wanted to share a bit. I want to get all gushy and mushy but will refrain since I'd likely regret the lack of manly self control at a later date. Need to map this sensitive out

Good on ya' There's a great utility that helps get textures and things sorted out a bit. q2.backshooters.com/pub/misc/mapfilegatherer.zipIt's easy to use, just make sure that all textures that you use in editor are also in their proper folder structure in the Quake2 folder...Quake2/baseq2/textures/"your textures". When I zip mine up I like to make a folder and add folders as follows; maps textures sound env And anything else such as bot pathing, mod requirements and such. Select all the folders and zip them to "Your map name here". That way users can simply 'aim' the file at Quake2/baseq2 and let 'er rip. There're many ways to do it, that's mine, hope it helps.
