that is pretty slick.
I still make some little stuff here and there in quark just to keep my brain workin, and it's cool to see that someone found a new application for it to be used in.

In case anyone wonders, I based my scores on 5 being an average value for a map that meets the standards of the majority of maps out there. A value lower than 5 reflected me finding at least one major flaw in a certain area, even if the rest of that category was covered to some degree, and got lower as I found more things that didn't live up to expectations. If you didn't get at least a 5 on something, I found it lacking in at least one way for that category, unless it was the subjective judges opinion category. For that one, I chose to rate the 11 maps from 0-10 in the order that I thought they should be on the final tally. for everything else, 6, 7, and 8 were my values for what I considered superior as compared to most maps, and 9s and 10s were relegated to what I would consider above and beyond expectations, and perfect. Overall, I found that every single map had multiple redeeming qualities and that it was much more challenging than I expected to retain a consistent rubric in judging them.. I was forced to make a spreadsheet very much like the results above and repeatedly revise my values as I replayed the maps, tested them with bots, and tried various changes to my configuration to bring the game back to the stock look that everyone would see if they loaded the map in a brand new q2.

I would recommend some Cream, Boston, Bad Company, and a bit of CCR

I finally have a system that will run this game, and it only costs about 10 bucks max nowadays! Been puttin in some hours on it, and it is very challenging and very fun! The class system makes for a lot of variation in the type of play you are experiencing. On every map, you might switch classes at least once to keep your team going towards the objectives, and the different playstyles required for each make sure that the game never gets boring. Here's my player stats so far: stats.enemyterritory.com/profile/245741

there is a slightly newer version of arghrad that was in beta before argh dissapeared, which fixed some of the problems with the _sun features and had some extra command line options. you can find it here: dervish.tastyspleen.net/files/buildutils.zipdepending on how the brushes are cut up in qbsp, it may still have a few weird graphical errors along the edge of certain tris when using too many light sources on the same surface. I notice it works best if you use chopsky to ensure that your sky brush isnt being cut into a million more small tris than it needs to have.

That was a fun round. A little overpopulated, but I didn't expect such a turnout till the day of the event! I couldnt find a room with less than 4 people in it at all times on q2dm8

got to play this against some decent opponents late last week on tastyspleen.
It is a very fun map with some cool movement opportunities and just enough space to get some speed up while you run through it.
at one point during the match I played, I was gettin into position to rocketjump up and grab the RA and was suddenly getting chaingunned from behind. I flicked the mouse crazily out of surprise and ended up landing on the megahealth with only a few health to spare before moving across to grab the armor and make a very slick getaway.
all in all, it's a nice map with a lot of items and combinations to work with and enough balance that anyone should be able to enjoy a match.
good job Le Ray!

I use Wally for pak editting. Pak Explorer and Pakscape have both worked for me in the past as well. (one of them could not handle long file names tho..) Wally tends to be my choice because it's great for creating and modifying .wal textures, you can manipulate your paks with it easily and it's never had an error for me. dervish.tastyspleen.net/files/wally_155b.exe

That one's for the origin brush when you make a spinning brush model using the func_rotating.
you'll make a small brush that represents the axle of the spinning entity and paint it entirely with that texture, and then the rest will rotate around that brush depending on the settings for the entity.
