Please tell me this is a bad joke. LOL yes it's an old internet joke made for shock value. In the old days, if you tried to place an order or send an angry letter to the creator he'd respond with an e-mail making fun of you for believing it. A week for speedmapping? I made spirit2dm4 in 5 days (coming up with the layout included). We used to have 1h sessions at LM. I'd suggest sth in beween, maybe one afternoon (3-5h)? Make it a sunday and I'm in. You're right. I could do a speed map in 1-3 hours. I just expected some kind of negative response from some people who take long periods of time. Many great maps are made in a month, so a week seemed reasonable at the time. But anyway, yeah I'd love to do an actual speed map competition where you have 24 hours from the time that it is announced to submit a map.

maric's suggestion sounds fun.
I also think that a speed mapping competition is appropriate in place of the next official contest.
I've seen interest in speed mapping from fellow Spleeners. Speed mapping being no more than a week to create it.

I made a mod with similar functionality zeliepa.com/dna/quake2/quakechi/index.htmThere are 3 classes and each have a way of reaching new locations. The wizard of air can summon clouds that he walks on. The wizard of death can summon zombies and use them as platforms or even double jump from their heads. The chi fighter can cast a mid-air jump spell that pushes him forward in the direction that he is facing. It's not quite the same as spawning boxes that bounce around, but it definitely has the ability to spawn Bounded Box models to use as platforms.

Wixen, Spirit, Do you think that it is realistic to have a european game on a euro server this friday? It would probably be 8:00pm your time, which is 2:00 my time. I'm not sure where to post this to get more players from across the pond. Think that the EDL people would be interested?

The splatter fest is 8:00pm EST tonight. That should be about 10:00am monday morning for you. Hope that helps. I doubt that you celebrate labor day down under but hopefully you can make it. I'd say that it's certainly worth taking a day off work to play these maps.

macanah, ya got robbed. This one wasn't in the collected downloads ZIP. Now I have to download it again, and have a look. In general there is what I've always considered a viable class of maps like this (from what I gather in the screenshots). That is, what I'd call "abstract". Yeah, we've all made these kinds of maps with walls of water, floating sky blocks, and all the good stuff. There are certain gameplay dynamics that can only be realized through these kinds of odd and simple constructs. True and I couldn't get enough of playing on your map last year, macanah, but this one isn't quite as fun. It has it's moments but seems to not have enough weapons. One note is at the bottom of the lava in the center, the lowest side is raised from the floor. If you swim to the bottom in time then you are no longer considered in the lava and stop taking damage. This glitch also works for slime and drowning.

I'm going to jump in here. I made a map almost EXACTLY like this like 10 years ago. These kinds of maps are an absolute blast. I mean yours looks tons better than mine did, but the concept is still the same. Tight corridors and you have to fight tooth and nail for every last piece of ammo. I'm really looking forward to playing this one on sunday. (unfortunately it is not currently on the TS maplist ) I understand how it wouldn't score will with this type of scoring system, but as for play, it should be pretty solid. ...
