The light looks fine to me. The caves as well as the Data CD part of the level are supposed to be dark, which they are when I run Quake II, while the ending part is supposed to be much brighter. Besides, atmosphere doesn't always necessarily need darkness. Couldn't understand the rest of your post, unfortunately.

After my return to mapping with Information Center I couldn't help myself and went on to make another level. As the name suggests, it's a Strogg base built into an asteroid orbiting their home planet. You're sent there to retrieve any kind of information about a new secret weapon that the Strogg are developing. It supports single player, cooperative and deathmatch modes. I know it's not much, but I'm eager to learn more. Let me know what you think! Here is where you can download it from.

Nobody said anything about only using Q1 stock textures, just the brush limit. Why not freedom for texture choice?

That's something I'd like to see happen! Personally, I can't get enough of mapping contests, no matter the rules, and it'd be a challenge to put something really nice together in only two hundred brushes!

Thanks for the comments, everyone! Yes, I'm using Qoole 2.50, but I feel that most of the time when I try to make something more complicated the editor messes it up - even the rotated crates were giving me headaches because there was a fifty percent chance that one of their faces wouldn't compile correctly and you could shoot through them, so I had to remake them over again. Not to mention that the textures on the brush sides look fine in Qoole, but after compiling and playing in Quake they were completely misaligned. So, for them to look fine in Quake, I had to make most of them like this: That almost always happens when something is not completely orthogonal.

Thanks so much for giving me the tutorial, Margaal. I had absolutely no idea that all I had to do was to add the correct texture. Apparently, I've always used some other equivalents that don't contain animation, the ones that do are usually among the first ones in the texture list.

I've just made my first Quake II map after a four-year long break during which I seem to have forgotten everything there is to know about mapping! Anyway, I know it's not much to look at, it's not impressive in the least, but I wanted to share it with you guys. It supports single player, cooperative and deathmatch modes. Here is where you can download it from. If you try it out, please tell me what you think! Thanks in advance! MaRiNe [Q2C] (Teo)

Hey everybody, I've started mapping again recently and thankfully, there are tons of tutorials around the Internet that helped me remind myself of Qoole 2.50's functions, the editor I use. However, I've never quite understood how to put animated textures in my map, for example, the computers with scrolling text or flashing buttons in the id Software levels. I use the exact same textures in my levels, but they're not moving. I also can't see anything in the texture properties in Qoole 2.50 that enables textures that are supposed to animate do so in my own map. How can I trigger the existing textures' ability to animate in my levels, as well? Thanks in advance!

Congratulations, Margaal! And thanks to all of the mappers who made this contest possible, as well as Wixen, of course! I had tons of fun trying these maps out and judging them, and I can't wait for the next contest!

Aight, life's slowing down a bit. I was able to open the editor for the first time in months, this past and rainy weekend. I'm in IF there aren't any major themes/designations/restrictions. BUT, if that's the case, it's all good, I still got me the start of a couple decent map'n ideas for whtaever and whenever. XOXOXO That's cool m.. And hey MaRiNe!, long time no see. Good to have you back. -W1 Likewise, Wixen! Just for future reference, if there's a mapping contest about, my return here is almost guaranteed!
