Rip off how? This isn't a contest as the only deadline is submissions that take like 10 minutes to an hour to do. It should only be thought of as a group project and I've posted it on other forums aswell. My guess as to why nobody is joining your contest is because it's too soon after the last one.

Right-o here we go! Here's the idea. Submit to me a .map file using vanilla Quake 2 stuff and within the specified dimensions. I will then piece the pieces together and in the end we will have a Single Player level built from a shmaz of rooms and various themes . Still with me? Here are some general rules: - Vanilla Quake2 - No added anything and set any sky to that texture which allows external skies. - Dimensions: The room you create should be no larger than 512x512x512. The map will be composed of everyone's pieces. - Items, monsters and collectibles: If your room requires an item or event to happen from another room, either submit a second room or let me know and we'll set something up . - Compile info: Please have all lighting and cleanup done and ready for compile so all I will have to do is connect the pieces and choose start and end locations. Basically I'd like all modelling bits finished. This is not a contest and while there is no submission deadline, I hope to get at least 10 submissions before this thread is bumped off the bottom of the page . ***Submit .map in a zip file to egamers@shaw.ca ================= ================= ================= Quake 2 Group Map Making Thingie (Q2GMMT) Status Report January 14, 2008 Participants: Mikemc, OmnificienT, Paril, Mek, TMG, Mugford, Steeveeo, JapaDas, Unknown Individual Cleanup = 97% Total Cleanup = 19% Order = 100% Assembly = 29% Puzzles = x3 Action = x7 Compile Time in minutes = 6 Known Issues: - A couple missaligned textures upon compile - Slight lag in non-action areas System: Celeron 1.99Ghz, 192 Ram, 1.1Gb free

The four components suggest a deathmatch level but 'plot' suggests a single player. Unless you refer to Cooperative, which is it? And when you say Quake2's stock maps, do you mean decompiling and chopping them up, or just remaking them from scratch? I think you should give a bit more notice for signups than 1 day Neat idea though.. - Mike

I would like to see a Single Player contest hosted around here sometime . Basic rules would include a Primary objective and at least one or two secondary objectives and have a 1 or 2 map limit. *Edit* Maybe just a 1 map limit - See how much you can cram into a single level - Mike

Also you could put the enforcer above or below ground. I made an arrow that points at you to test this out . - Mike

Why would a Q3 map be so difficult to make in Q2? It's not that hard to make a circle - Mike

I will post pictures of stuff here and I would like opinions and feedback on things like texturing and architecture... Does that sound too demanding? I use QuArK as my modelling tool so this seems like the best place to post. This is a Wind Station. It could be used to house a flag, capture point or just a place to hide. The building without the fan blade (and slightly modified) was originally used in Pariah but had a bland gray texture to it. members.shaw.ca/mccall1/quake/par_wind.gif- Mike

Alright the lighting's gone! Turned out the one I was using already had that option but I never touch commands like that Now how about eliminating the light at the base and ceiling? More func_walls? - Mike

I find that if a map takes longer than a few days, I end up not finishing it! So... members.shaw.ca/mccall1/quake/mike_t1.zipThere's a Quad in the middle, can you get to it? Please tell me what you think! - Mike

Ya technically you just edited somebody elses work... The ZIP is missing a sky texture and e1u1/baslt3_4.wal. The origional map was great, so I guess Technically this map is great too.
