dosbox.sourceforge.net/news.php?show_news=1did you try DosBox ? this creates a environment for the DOS games to run. works really well in general. and it slows down your system for sure. incredible how slow it runs !! fast sys required.

;D I was stunned by the fact that some of these newer games would run on my box at all. Not all game developers are aiming for users of high end rigs as it seems. Nonetheless, upgrade is unavoidable, soonest.

I have a habit of playing Quake 3 through on the highest level (nightmare) ever once in a while. this provides some good deathmatch training. back in 2002 I finished The Space Chamber (q3dm18) some month and countless attempts later than the other maps - this time I jumped in and wasted them at first try. Last year I couldn't even get past The Bouncy Map (q3dm16), this year it was piece of cake .... either Q3 is getting easier, or I am getting better.

it's not out yet. maybe you will be able to upgrade your hardware until it's done.

I'm saying this really just in case you didn't notice, but this thread is actually about Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, a game which is still in development and will push the Quake 2 universe even further than Quake 4. This will be way ahead of Wolfenstein:Enemy Territory which is still based on the dreadful Quake 3 engine. Is there a slim chance you are confusing these two ? Or else your last post would be way off topic, wouldn't it ? Keep it clean here ....

RPG's require so much patience .... their gameplay is a bit too slow paced for me. You can have "puzzles" in FPS games too .... but after running through huge building structures solving these "puzzles" I want to be rewarded with a big, big battle. And a realtime battle like in Doom or Quake. I don't legally own RPGs anyway, but I have Anachronox on my HD (warez!!) which I played a bit last year. This is really BIG stuff and based on the Q2 engine. I also leeched Parasite Eve 2 lately. It is not available for PC, so I run it with a Playstation emulator. It runs well, only replacing the original controller with keyboard and mouse is somewhat unfamiliar. It runs well looks good, but now I don't touch it anymore. Guess RPGs are just not my stuff. Oh, I never owned a console, btw.

I'm surprised it didn't come with a thread for Doom, right off the bat... Let's say, this could have easily become a Doom-specific board. Don't ask me how I know .... intuition I guess.

yes, they have been "removed". only the empty sockets there .... this is how I explain why these walls do not have floor lights like the others in this area. the actual reason is making these walls darker to keep the mentioned light glitches down and barely visible. the empty sockets create the alibi : the bulbs have been removed and will be replaced soon ....

neat. with dark022 you have done it, Skies. I felt like a small boy at christmas discovering santas magical ice caves at the north pole while I was running through this. because of this special flavour the gargantuan size of the map is excusable, it helps you getting this christmassy feeling as if you were small again. dark020 is somewhat out of proportion, however, regardless some really beautiful designs and places in it. it would have gained by being shrunken to half its size. this would give it more density and closeness and overall better quality. there is an optimal size for every map.

gspeed01 aka Gothic Impressions since it could not be found with google anymore, I felt that grieves' most accomplished design should be reposted here so that it does not completely vanish from the web. and here is what personally I dislike about this map : the dumb long corridor in the cellar, even if it tries to be something else with some water and slopes, is just a dumb, stupid long corridor in the cellar. it should have at least intersected a chamber with a branching. other than that, this map is solid. members.aon.at/sublevel404/files/gspeed01.zipcuco.dyndns.org/users/grieve/files/maps/gspeed01.zip
