Something went wrong on my setup. I think that some of the files did not load. I mean, the map works fine, but the textures do not show up. The weapons look normal. Am I unzipping the file wrong? Pity, cuz it looks like a cool setup!

Was it a technical problem, or was it loss of interest?
I'm over here tinkering with relays and stuff, and making some really cool interactive things for a map. However, once I actually start laying rooms out, I get bored.
My current 'project' is an old science complex. (possibly post apocalyptic) Everything will be dark and non-functional, except for a few emergency lights. Navigation to/from rooms may take thinking and some time. However, once a master power switch is turned on, everything slowly starts to auto-power up. Now, running around is much faster, and you can now gain access to the stronger weapons. Automatic doors only work when the power is on, however you can shoot the door sensor and permanently fry that one door closed.
I've got the technical stuff done, but just the map to layout.

I have an idea, and I wanted to see if any other fellow mappers were interested in it...
I was thinking of a group map. One person would be the coordinator, and figure out a generic map. (rooms with doors, trapdoors...inside rooms, outside rooms...etc.) Seperate mappers would each create one room to their liking, but it must conform to the general map. (so that doors line up and such) Then, the coordinator could put all of the rooms together and have one map!
If someone didn't want to creat an entire room, then maybe they could submit some props or something.
What do ya'll think?

Stah,
the item placement is definetley different than a typical map!
In the warehouse, I set the rocket launcher on a high shelf and the railgun in the same room (but on the first floor). The concept was to promote firefights on 2 different levels. I thought the top level would be at an advantage, so I made the upper level a little narrow, and left the wall-beams sticking out a little, so that it would not be so easy to strafe back-n-forth so easily. The crate placement down below provides a little easier movement, but a little less protection.
Now, the other rooms, I wanted to have an 'electric' room which powers the entire facitlity. It only made sense to put lots of cells there. There's a supply room, with lots of wearable gear inside. There's an armoury with lots of....well...armour.
Instead of scattering all items throughout the map, I scattered the rooms instead. So, people will run to the armoury for armour, the warehouse for cool weapons and ammo, and so on.
The map was supposed to have a medical area as well (on the upper level of the electrical room and an entry from the eerie red control room), but the map started freaking out, so I wrapped it up as-is'.
I want to have my maps make sense instead of having a player walk down a hall and have a weapon or power-up lying on the floor. It only makes sense, because that is how other map makers have always done it.
My next map will have an armoury, ammo dump, weapons facility, health facility, equipment room, electrical room, and advanced research lab. That way instead of running to a weapon, you run to a room with a purpose. Also, if someone gets hurt badly, you'll have an idea that they will run straight to the medical area for health.
Now does it make sense? ;D

Hiya guys. After sulking at all of my unfinished Quake2 maps, I decided that I was going to just post this one. I was still working on the map when I started getting errors. After a couple weeks of trying different approaches, I ended up finishing it up 'as-is'. If you like tight walkways and close combat, then this is the map for you! The map was not made with any mods in mind, but I'm sure that it'll work nicely with whatever you are using. I have 2 more maps that I would really like to finish. One is giving me stupid errors, and the other one is nearly overwhelming! Both maps are extremely unique and neither one reminds you of Q2. Well...sorry for the blah blah. Go check it out now! www.vr2.cc/misc/vr2_1.zip (If you find any probs, I will not correct them. Work is completed on this map and I'm sick of it!) -Kiddie Fresh

My first computer was an Atari 800. It came with 16k of RAM, but I bougth more RAM with the computer. (total 48k RAM) The lovely 16 colors could be seen on a TV screen. (This was in 1980!) My modem was a 300 baud modem, and I was able to logon to Compuserve. Of course, I had no idea what to do after I logged in. After some time, I learned how to swap files with friends and post onto message boards. My hard drive was an external add-on and was the size of a toaster. I used to notch floppy disks, so I could use both sides of the disk. Memories!

Don't feel bad Wixen, my PC cannot handle it either. My son had to bring his own PC over and let me check it out. Starbird, there is a supersweet game that you would have to play. It is called FEAR. It is a spooky, first person shooter. There's ghosts and blood and creepy things in the game. It is one of those games that must be played alone and with headphones for maximum effect.

I played a Q4 demo last Thursday. Wow! This will be the surpasser to Q2. The action is fast, the graphics are very good and smooth. It appears that they have captured the gameplay from Q2 and took it to the next level. It really feels like Q2 while playing, but with a massive visual upgrade. If your computer can support it, try it out!

The shoulders and elbows are from armstreet.com. The knees are from stonekeep armoury. All other items were made by myself. This is my 4th body armour piece. They keep getting better and better!
Our fighting 'pit' is not really a pit so to speak. It is a somewhat flat piece of land with a top layer of sand that is surrounded by thick pieces of wood. The ground gets uneven at times, but is not too tough to level out again. (We keep a rake on site.)
I like the idea of open battles. We will have to try it sometimes. Perhaps a 'protect the princess' battle or something like that. Lately, we have been really enjoying the battles with more than 2 fighters. Seems like the audience does too!
I kinda dig a 2 handed sword for combat. However, I have recently rediscovered how awesome a good shield/sword combo can be. During 'weapon of choice' tournaments, the weapon I choose may depend on who I fight and what they wield. (Kinda like paper, scissors, rock.)

The SCA has too many rules for our tastes. We fight with rattan weapons that have some padding on them. We allow punches, kicks, elbows, knees, takedowns, and pretty much anything you can dish out. The perriferal vision is OK. So far, this is the best helmet I have tried out. When I bought it, it had lots of tiny holes in the visor. I cut slits into it then placed a black mesh screen inside. The 'scales' at the base of the helmet limits my ability to turn my head. (They catch on the leather beneath.) However, it really doesn't affect performance. We mostly fight one on one. However, we sometimes do 2 on one, or 2 on 2, or 3 or 4 all against all. Our current 'pit' isn't big enough to house more than 4. We do have plans to renovate our pit and make it into a large octagon. I fought yesterday again. Lots of fun, I tell you! Now I need a couple days to let my muscles relay. hehe

It's alot of fun fighting in this suit! It's pretty darn protective, yet offers fair mobility.
I need it to withstand about 30 more fights before the end of the season! Just one fight can wreak havoc on armour. Hopefully I will not need to make any repairs.
