Hi everyone, I've done some stuff for q3 and other games in the past but am rather new to the q2 community. I decided to give q2 mapping a try like 4 weeks ago and have come up with a beta of spirit2dm1. It's a DM-map designed for 3 players. One atrium, lots of vertical action. Some may have read the announcement on planetquake or read my post at mc/q3w, but it seems to fit here much better. The map is available from my website or via this > download link < . Shot 1: Shot 2: Shot 3: Shot 4: Known issues: *small but strange sparkle effect on a brush above MH. looks like z-fighting but there's no overlapping brushes there, double-checked it. Hints on the error named above would come in *very* handy, same goes for feedback on anything else of course. Thanks for your time and hf!

Ok nvm i just did a build pause to see if i could figure something out but ummm EVERYONE of the dam Compilers fails they all say -ERROR- couldnt load this or couldnt load that Qbsp says Leask(not leaked) Qrad says couldnt find Untitled.prt and Qis Says oculnd topen Colourmap.pcx(even fater taking out of the .Pak file)...and its doing this with all the editors ove tried...in serious need of help If the compiler claims the map was leaking it most likely is. Everyone likes another editor and you'll have to find the one that suits you best on your own. As I do lots of q3 mapping, I'm using GTKradiant but I assume that other editors also provide you with the possibilty to generate and load a point file for your map. When you load it up, a thick red line originates from the first entity you placed in your map and goes out of your map through the leak and into the void. Simply follow the red line in the 3D-view window to find the leak. Note that detail brushes should NOT be used for the outer hull of your map, they will produce a leak if you do use them for the outer hull (view-> filter -> details in radiant to be sure). The error on loading the .prt-file (a portal file for calculating bsp-tree and the potential view set) may occur when you missed compiling VIS on your map. Also be sure to place the file colourmap.pcs into the '<your-quake2-dir>/baseq2/pics/' folder.

There will be ET:QW soon. Don't know if I'd call that q5 though.

Thanks guys! I'm currently quite busy with some other projects (doing a quakeworld map, finishing two q3 maps and a warcraft3 map), but I hope I'll soon find the time to make a second one for q2.
It was great fun to make and play it.

Hi everyone, looks like all bugs are fixed and my first q2 map is ready for release. So here is > the final version of spirit2dm1 < . For those who missed the beta thread: it's a DM-map designed for 3 players. One atrium, lots of vertical action. The download link above is for the bsp-only version. The map is also available in a version that comes with * a routes table for the eraser bot (.rzt) * a location file for r1q2 and other q2 clients (.loc) from my website . More screenshots and the readme can also be found there (readme is included in both zip archives as well). Screenshot: Thanks again to everybody who helped with beta testing and suggestions! btw: the map can be played online at my q2 server at airrocket.net:27910. Enjoy,

When I was a trainee at an IT-company I used to set my preferences to "always invisible" on some very common IT-forums so other employees of that company couldn't see that I was online during the working time. I didn't post, of course, but it's nice to be logged in so you can easily figure out what you've already read and what's new.

They most likely won't, but only the engine was released under the GPL, not the maps/textures/models.
So depending on the mood of some lawyers, it may be a very bad idea to risk breaking the copyright. Apart from that, ID is one of the companies that really made lots of stuff public and available under very fair conditions imo and one should respect that the textures were not part of this.

It's a shame that Dallas is 5200 miles away from where I live.

That's it from what I know.
I've got both of them, but they are copyrighted and not available for free from what I know. They came with the Q2-DVD that was in the q4 special-edition box.

Use a proper q2 server/client like r1q2 and enable the gzipped in-game downloads via http.
