This map was soo cool. However, the guidlines of the contest don't allow for judging these kinds of maps properly.
The spinning blade hallways were soo... BAD ASS! It really needed some playtesting though. I urge friar to use this Sunday's splatter fest as a chance to take notes and release a version 2 of this. Maybe one with the gears as the central room, 2 larger normal style rooms on either side, and 2 more hallways made of the spinning blade rooms to connect them.

This map wins for originality. When I loaded it up and looked at the sky I actually said out-loud: "WOAH!". My wife laughed at me and asked me what I was doing.
The alien was a nice touch too.
I do have a few problems with it though. The item placement needs improvement and it's really easy to get caught up on the details when trying to get to jump pads and teleporters. Also every time I go to the lower areas, I end up falling to the death. It just needs another pass to improve the movement.
I didn't know where to come out on this one. Yendor is always a winner in my book based on the fun factor. This time around he gets high marks in the artistic nature and originality but I don't see it being quite as fun as Yggdrasil or Shardac.
Still an excellent map that you HAVE to see!

This map looks great, flows nice and all, but I can describe it in 2 words. Quake 3.
I'm sure that it's a great map and I'll definitely have a blast playing on it, but it's not my cup of tea. Not bad, just not my kind of map. That's all.

This map makes me think of the movie Big where Tom Hanks raises his hand in a meeting and says "I Don't Get It."
I honestly don't know what there is not to get but I didn't. It looks nice, the movement is nice, the item placement is well done, it supports plenty of players, and spirit was even nice enough to let us able to rocket jump into some of the upper details... but something about it didn't seem great.
It gets high scores because it is certainly a professional map, and it's certainly got some good gameplay, but it seems like it was designed to win and not designed to play.
Maybe I'm being too harsh. Regardless, Spirit's other entry was absolutely flipping amazing so that makes up for any negativity that I bring here.

On my score sheet I actually intended for this one to win, but it was such a close match between this and teh sandwich's entry that I let the scores lay the way that I left them. There is nothing else to say other than 100% fun and 100% professional. I don't know if there is a such thing as a perfect map but this is damned near close to it. (Also the Dopefish and the unreachable BFG were nice touches)

This map won on my score sheet because it is designed to fit in with the original set of 8 dm maps. This is an excellently well rounded map. I know that it is probably more duel centric than regular deathmatch, but that doesn't subtract from the nostalgic and professionalism that it entails. It's not the prettiest map, but it is professional with a capital P. Combined with the angles and design this thing is probably going to be a regular on mutant very very quickly.

This map was may absolute favorite. The design of it was so unique and I thought that it was the most functional. There are so many intricacies that play into the map. Things like the rail alarm and the small jutting brushes on some platforms that you could use to get up if you practiced your movement just right.
There's also so many punishments for bad movement and bad decisions. This thing is a masterpiece of fun. The visuals were surprisingly good. There wasn't quite a consistent texture theme but there is nothing wrong at all with the art style. All in all I predict this to be the most fun map in the entire batch.
It's maps like these that make me excited for this week's splatterfest.

Tastyspleen.net has a new rogue deathmatch server.
Anyone want to do a map contest specifically for this expansion?

Don't know if prizes is necessary, but it sure would be cool to see how many participants we could get if we had some prize money.. I don't see a problem to sponsor the contest with about €10-20, and if a few more people would do the same, it could turn out pretty awesome! That would be pretty cool, but donating the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes directly to maric would save everyone a lot of effort.

Dying Halls q264_9.bsp 2-8 players Pretty fun map with some nice unique texturing. I did not have matching textures for some of the patterns, so I improvised as best as possible. The map is a little heavily unbalanced towards the Hyperblaster end. In fact, that end used to hold a BFG, which I removed because it seemed inappropriate. I also replaced the rotating quad/invul/invis/powershield item chain with just a mega in the center. *NOTE*: I completed this map almost 2 months ago and forgot to upload it. Have not had time to map lately at all. zeliepa.com/dna/files/q264/q264_9.zip

I really liked the map. The only thing that I thought could use some work is the position of the spawns. Otherwise, it is laid out for a great deal of fun. There's a rocket pit, rail corridors and some trick jumps. It also has the added bonus of camping spots and some unique ways to access various items. I imagine that gameplay will not be unlike city3, which is an absolute blast on the tastyspleen.net:vanilla server. I uploaded it to the FTP as is. Just waiting for it to by synced. Oh I'll throw it up on my server tonight. Keep forgetting that that is why I made the server to begin with.

Mucho improvement, keep up the good work. (You also distributed the .map in the zip you uploaded to PQ. Sometime in the future I may chop it up and make a remake of it. )

Whenever you get this thing sorted, would you be interested in making more models for a q2 megaman mod? Beanstorm has been doing a great job putting out classic looking robot masters, but I'm sure that he would appreciate the help. tastyspleen.net/quake/forums/index.php?topic=7368.45

Thanks lads! It's all been positive and to say the least strange. I keep getting freaked out by directional (stereo) stuff. so what you're saying is that if there ever was a time to sneak up on you and say "BOO!"... now would be the time.

hi guys i was wanting to know what maps are played on your railz server? i don't want to go download a shitload of maps i don't need i just want the maps used at railz. Are you refering to the tastyspleen server? GOTO RAILZ 74.54.186.226:27911 I think that the best you can do is to get the all-maps.zip from tastyspleen.net/quake/downloads/On this filebrowse page there are a couple different map packs for tourney maps and xatrix maps, but I don't see a breakdown for rail only maps.
